CITES, School of Nursing, The University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
While web design is not one of my major responsibilities
at the School of Nursing, I was given the task
of redesigning my division's web site. The previous
design was difficult to navigate, so my most important
goal was to make it easy for users to find the
information they sought. I accomplished this through
the expanding menu on the left, repetition of
the menu's links on the main page, and the "quick
links" on the right. Since the site's redesign
launch in late 2006, my team has received nothing
but compliments on its improved usability.

The Eating and Life Enhancement Center
In late 2006, I was approached by Dr. Jeffrey
DeSarbo about creating a web site for his psychiatry
practice in Garden City, New York. He wanted his
site to provide current and prospective patients
with information about his staff and office. I
assisted Dr. DeSarbo with acquiring a domain name
and hosting.
Future goals for this site include web-based
forms for new patients that are submitted electronically
to office staff, and pictures of staff and office
facilities.

CITES Newsletter, School of Nursing,
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
The CITES Newsletter was is an online publication
distributed through email and online. Its purpose
is to inform the School of Nursing's faculty and
staff of new (and old) ways to improve teaching
with technology. I created the template for this
newsletter in collaboration with my co-workers
in CITES, and regularly write articles. I am also
responsible for distributing the newsletter to
faculty and staff email lists and posting it to
the web.

Andrea & Mark's Wedding
I got engaged in October of 2004, and I'm a web
designer. How could I not create a wedding web
site? Since the majority of our family and friends
are scattered across the country, a web site was
the best way to keep everyone up-to-date on wedding
plans. This was my first CSS-heavy site, so I'm
proud of it (and I'm not at all biased because
it's about me).

Council for Allied Health in North
Carolina
One of my first tasks as an employee of UNC was
to create a web site for this Council. They meet
bimonthly to discuss issues regarding Allied Health
professions. Members are scattered across the
state, so a web site was needed as a central source
of current information. I created this site from
scratch, and also acquired hosting from an outside
vendor.
When I left my full-time position at UNC in September
2003, I was hired as a web site consultant, and
was responsible for regular updates through May
2005. Due to funding constraints, my position
was cut, but I continue to volunteer my time for
updates.

CHART, Department of Allied Health
Sciences, The University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill
I was referred by the Executive Director of the
Council for Allied Health in North Carolina to
the Project Coordinator of CHART, a program whose
purpose was to recruit, train, certify and place
students and employees in several allied health
fields. The program needed someone to update and
perform maintenance to their web site, as their
previous webmaster had graduated and moved away.
I was hired as a consultant in May of 2004 and
communicated with the Project Coordinator through
email until my departure from the project in May
2005.
Due to budget cuts, this program and its web
site no longer exist. The link to the left is
the latest version I had saved on my computer.

RPI Pep Band Alumni and Friends
A large portion of my time in college was spent
participating in the RPI Pep Band in one capacity
or another. It's where I met my husband and many
of my close friends. In December of 2003, a fellow
alum approached me with an idea for a Pep Band
alumni website. Its purpose would be for alumni
to stay in touch and to keep informed of on-campus
events. I volunteered to design the web site as
a tribute to the many happy memories made while
a member of the Pep Band.

TobaccoCME.com
This site, supported by a grant from
the National Heart, Lung & Blood Institute,
is a suite of online courses targeted towards
physicians who wish to receive continuing education
in tobacco interventions for their patients. Many
of its users are not particularly web-savvy, so
we made it a point to make the site as clean and
simple as possible. I created most of the graphics
within the courses, including graphs, charts,
photograph manipulations, and JavaScript rollover
features. The layout followed the predetermined
standard for AddictionCME.com,
TobaccoCME.com's parent site.
As of May 2005, the site has changed its design
substantially. While the site design no longer
reflects my work, but the graphics I created and
placed within the courses still remain.

|
Tobacco Free Patients
This is another suite of online courses
for health professionals, supported by a grant
from the National Cancer Institute. The goal was
to make this site look different from TobaccoCME.com
so the two would not be confused. I created most
of the graphics within the courses, including
graphs, charts, photograph manipulations, Flash
animations, and JavaScript rollover features.
As of May 2005, the site has changed its design
substantially. While the site design no longer
reflects my work, but the graphics I created and
placed within the courses still remain.

Department of Chemistry & Chemical
Biology, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
I was hired in August 2001 to completely redesign
the Chemistry & Chemical Biology Department's
web site They were conducting a nationwide search
for a new department head at the time, and they
wanted a more "professional" looking
site to reflect their caliber. I was responsible
for every aspect of the development process, including
graphic design, page layout, photography, and
content research. This site was completed in May
of 2002.
I was employed as an independent contractor from
July 2002 through May 2005. After that, the Department
hired an in-house designer and completely changed
the look of the web
site. If you click the graphic to the left,
you'll see my original design.

AHSC 350: Assistive Technology
in Allied Health
This site was designed for an online class which
was first taught in Spring of 2003. The course
was initially taught through Blackboard,
an online education software package. While Blackboard
is convenient and easy to use, its customization
abilities are limited. The instructor of AHSC
350 wanted a web site that better suited the course,
in both functionality and look. The class has
not been taught since Spring 2004, so the information
is outdated.

|
Center for Literacy and Disability
Studies
I designed this site in October of 2002. The Center
promotes literacy for those with disabilities.
Conferences and presentations are held all over
the country, so this site was created as a way
to keep track of "who will be where when."
The Center is still in its infancy, so the "Projects"
section is sparse at the moment.

Amber & Sebastian's Wedding
I created this web site for two of my friends
who were married in 2003. They wanted a place
where guests could go for information regarding
the ceremony, reception, gift registries, or anything
else applicable to the wedding. Prior to the implementation
of this site, they had a plain black-on-white
list of links. One's wedding day is special, and
I thought their web site should reflect that.
Both the bride and groom were pleased with the
results. |

Only in Dreams: An Online Community
EMAC majors like myself have to take a course
called Capstone Design which lasts both semesters
of our senior year. RPI's course catalog describes
Capstone Design as: "Through a series of
production and writing assignments, breakout seminars,
group critiques, and public exhibition, the goal
is to develop a work-in-progress in the winter
semester and a final version in the Spring semester
of the capstone project and senior thesis paper."
My project was about dreams and dream interpretation.
It's a topic that has interested me for years.
It contained scientific information about why
dreams happen, an alphabetical listing of common
dream themes, information about dream experts,
a list of books for further reading, and a bulletin
board (no longer in service due to excessive spamming)
so people could discuss their dreams with others.
This site was completed in April of 2002.

FulFill-Net Online Product Demo
I created this demo as part of my 2001 summer
internship at FulFill-Net, a startup company that
provided technology to warehouse managers to keep
track of their orders and inventories. It has
received many compliments for its simplicity.
The company and its website no longer exist,
but I saved a copy of my demo. Please note that
only the links pertaining to the demo work in
this copy. |

Bernfeld for Assembly
My friend's father was running for public office,
and I needed a final project idea for my Advanced
Content Development for the World Wide Web class
in the Fall of 2000. I offered to design Mr. Bernfeld's
campaign web site. All he had to do was send me
information. Unfortunately, he didn't win the
election, but I did receive an A for my work. |
